Overview :

UNDP Regional Support Centre for Africa (RSC), Addis Ababa, Ethiopia, invites interested universities, think tanks and research institutions to indicate their interest in undertaking research project(s) on Disrupting the Corruption Chains in Radicalization and Violent Extremism in Africa. The programme and the research areas are outlined below.

The growth of violent extremism that we are facing all across Africa is strictly interrelated with corruption. Acting often as an incubator for the growth of organized crime, violence and youth radicalization, corruption constitutes an enabling factor for such extremist ideologies. By eliciting a profound sense of moral outrage, undermining trust in the political system and facilitating the operations of VE organizations on the ground, corruption paves the road for youth engagement in VE activities. These are just some of the links explaining the strong nexus among corruption and VE. The United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) as the leading development agency in the United Nations System, has sought to understand the drivers of radicalization, its manifestations at the national and regional level and how government, communities and citizens can be supported to respond, ensuring the protection and promotion of human rights.

EOI, statements of qualification and other supporting documents must be delivered via e-submission clearly labeled “Corruption-PVE Research Proposals 2017” by no later than May 1, 2017 at 1700hrs (UTC+03:00) Addis Ababa/Nairobi Time Zone as per the following secured email: procurement.et@undp.org
